Are Workplace Dress Code Policies Changing Post-Covid?
Since last year, most of the companies and organizations have accepted the new work culture that is Work from home. In this type of work structure, people are at ease in their comfortable wear like pyjamas, sweatpants, and slippers. During this pandemic, everyone was restricted to go out, and offices were also operating from home, so formal dressing is not a good idea to work from home. Everyone is used to wear comfortable clothes, staying at home.
Now, things are changing with the vaccine, companies and offices are now planning to reopen. This news has downhearted the employee that they have to sacrifice their comfortable dressing with more formal attires.
Before 2020 formal clothing like suits were a part of office culture. In every official meeting and conference, suits were compulsory for the employees and leaders. But during this pandemic, it has completely transformed into comfortable and pliable clothing. Now the concept has changed after COVID, people are choosing convenience over appearance. Here we will discuss some of the points related to change in dress code post Covid.
Non-existence of Formal Wear
Covid has changed the world very fast which we have never imagined. Mainly it has impacted the workplace and workforce. In just 16 months we can figure out a change in the mindset of people and their outlook. Before Covid formal suits, ties, jackets were the dress code of companies, which use to define their job. They have never thought of this change in dressing, that is a comfortable wear.
During lockdown people have become used to loungewear, t-shirts, and shorts. Now everyone is thinking about whether this system is going to prevail post Covid. But one thing is clear, that dress codes are certainly going to change.
Being Comfortable Is Vital
During lockdown people were restricted to their homes, so dressing up formally didn’t make much sense for many remote employees. There is common psychology, we are only well dressed when there is someone to see and admire it, however, this has changed. The employees on zoom meetings wear mostly casual outfits, which is now acceptable to anyone, even the seniors. They feel more relaxed and feel more comfortable working.
Performance is irrespective of clothing
Before Covid, casual and pliable clothing was already accepted by many companies. Clothing doesn't impact directly the quality of work, but dressing comfortably can help employees feel more comfortable at work. Now many seniors are open to this change and focusing more on effective and productive outcomes.
We can figure out one innovative kind of dressing common among employees working remotely. There is always a shirt that they wear on their pyjamas during their zoom calls or video conference, to look presentable and formal.
Demerit of Lockdown Dressing
Formal wear like suits with ties and shoes has been always a moment of pride to work in an organization. Dressing always defines our personality. Dressing up in loungewear and stepping into the workplace is like wearing formal at the beach. Appropriate dressing according to the place is always important. Comfortable and flexible clothing does not mean wearing pyjamas.
Summary
Though we are used to our relaxed dressing during this lockdown, dress code is still significant for the workplace at many companies, as it defines your personality and profession. The dress always uplifts your mood and confidence in interacting with people.
Though it's important to consider the comfort of an employee, on the other hand it's also important to maintain a decent dress code for the workplace. The future dress code may be smart casual in place of formal suits.
