What is International HRM?
International Human Resource Management (HRM) are a group of organizations that manage HR activities at the international level. This includes HR functions like recruitment, selection, performance, management, training, etc. with monitoring being performed at the international level wherein organizational policies are reviewed, updated and managed at the international level using global best practices as reference.
Additional activities may also form a part of the IHRM portfolio, such as management of international relations, business / industrial agreements, expatriate management, succession planning on global level, etc.
At the core level, IHRM concerns itself with the management and development of HR activities within an organization at the global level. The various approaches that are included within IHRM are:
- Strategic or cross-cultural IHRM – concerned with the management of organizational HR activities from a global perspective.
- Comparative IHRM – concerned with studying IHRM systems, with respect to their description, comparison and analysis, across diverse geographies.
- Multinational IHRM – concerned with the management of HR activities within organizational having offices and employees in two or more countries.
