What does Median wage mean?
The median wage contrasts the mean wage where this is a calculation of adding all the wages within the data system together and dividing it by the total amount of pay. Whereas, the median wage is where all the wages are arranged in order and the median wage would be exactly half the data above it and half below it.
Unlike the mean wage the meridian wage is more accurate of the ‘average’ wage, as it does include the extremes of either side of the scale.
In an environment where there is a significant gap between the wages of senior executives and the average worker it is important to calculate the median wages.
