What are Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS)?

Human Resources Information System (HRIS) is a software-based automated system that is used to handle, update and manage HR data within an organization. An HRIS includes common functionalities that are required for an HRM – hiring, performance management, remuneration, benefits, learning, training, etc.

An HRIS is a software package which can be deployed on company’s own IT or cloud-based infrastructure. HRIS facilitates easy and effective planning of an organization’s costs and expense budgets as well as to manage them and control them without needing to allocate too many resources toward them.

Application of HRIS towards HR systems, processes and procedures also leads to a greater efficiency and productivity in organizational decision-making and quality of outcomes, thereby increasing the productivity of managers and team members.
